Tips for making email marketing successful

Email can be a very successful tool for keeping in touch with your members and visitors if done right.  The tips below will help you make sure your emails are delivered and read.

  1. Make sure the subject line tells reader what email is about.  Most people scan the subject line and who it is from to determine whether to read the email or now.  You can improve your open rate 30% by clearly identifying the subject matter.
  2. Clearly identify who the email is from.
  3. Unless it is your monthly newsletter keep the email short and to the point.  Cover only couple subjects in each email.  If it seems to overwhelming people won't take the time to read it.
  4. If possible deliver your message the same time every week.
  5. Deliver the email on Tuesday or Wednesday if possible.  Studies show that mail delivered on these two days are more likely to get opened.
  6. Make your message relevant.  With most email programs you can create different lists so make one for  youth, children, adults with kids etc.

Email is a important evangelism tool to help you reach people in your community and has several advantages:

  • It is 5 times cheaper than sending mail by the U.S. Post Office.
  • It is quick.   You can put together a message about an upcoming event that is only days away and your email will bring people to the event.
  • Email can quickly be personalized to include the recipient's name and other information.
  • It can be used to compliment direct mail campaigns that you have sent.
  • You can create it in color at no additional charge
  • You can make it interactive by linking it to a online sign up form or other document on your website.
  • It requires less staff time to create and mail.
  • You can tell who opened it
  • You can see which ones were not delivered for free.

There are so many different ways to communicate now that we need to reach people in multiple ways.  Some people will respond best to mail, while others prefer email, text or social media.

What types of messages can you use email for?

Newsletters
- If you are not using email to send out your newsletter you should consider setting it up today.  It is less expensive and faster than mail.

Special announcements - Because you don't have a cost associated with sending out each email you can give special attention to specific events such as a special service or a new class.  Because you are letting people know about only one item it won't get lost in a bulletin with all the other messages.

Gospel message - If you choose to work with us we will provide regular messages that tell about God's love.  They are creative and relevant.  We will provide the templates and the message that you can modify as you see fit.
